In order to adequately convey the information on this ubiquitous transit map, I separated the layers into significant features. Tactually, the system map does not differentiate lines by color, but rather has one raised line to show the BART route. On subsequent pages, each line is singled out, but remains in the same location on the page as on the system map. The visual component maintains the iconographic BART map style to be recognizable by people with some useable vision.
Below maps are printed and embossed on paper, with digital files to show the tactual and visual components, separated. A UV-printed version of this map will be on display (to touch!) at the Oakland Museum’s upcoming exhibit You Are Here: California Stories on the Map.
